Poker: WPT500 UK Returns to Dusk Till Dawn for £500K Showdown

The World Poker Tour (WPT) will continue its march around the globe in May with a return to one of Europe’s biggest card rooms, Dusk Till Dawn.

WPT500 UK will run from May 26 to 29 and cost £560 ($690) to enter. There will be five starting flights, including two turbos, and a £500,000 ($615,000) guaranteed prize pool.

This will be the first WPT event at Dusk Till Dawn since COVID-19 stopped play in 2019. Not only that, WPT500 UK is the organization’s eighth European stop of the season.

Simon Trumper, Live Poker Director at Dusk Till Dawn, believes the event’s timing alone will make it a success.

“We’re very excited to be hosting WPT500 UK. We expect it to resonate with our customers, and we hope the timing of the event over a UK bank holiday gives players an even better opportunity to take part,” Trumper said in Monday’s press release.

Timing aside, the WPT and Dusk Till Dawn have a long history of hosting successful events. The pair’s first collaboration was back in November 2014.

A £1 million ($1.23 million) guaranteed WPT500 attracted 2,133 entrants on that occasion. When the dust had settled, English pro Eleanor Gudger stood victorious and banked £140,000 ($172,773).

WPT500 UK to Benefit from Organization’s Midas Touch

The 2023 WPT500 UK might have a smaller guarantee, but it comes at a time WPT events are hitting record numbers. Indeed, recent WPT Prime events in France, Australia, and Cambodia all attracted over 1,000 entrants.

The WPT is also riding a wave of momentum created by the 2022 World Championship. The first season-ending series at Wynn Las Vegas surpassed all expectations and showed the WPT is firing on all cylinders right now.

Although it’s long been one of poker's premier tournament organizations, the WPT has been forced to take a backseat at various points over the years. Now, however, it’s returned to the top of the game.

Its tournaments at all levels, from small stakes WPT500 events to the $25,700 World Championship High Roller, are attracting record crowds. The WPT500 UK will benefit from this air of positivity surrounding the organization. This, coupled with the fact Dusk Till Dawn is one of the best poker rooms in Europe, means there’s a lot to look forward to in May if you’re a tournament player.
