Longshot golf betting winners have not been common occurrences at the the Masters

Of the last 10 victors at Augusta National, only three had pre-tournament odds of +4000 or longer, including Danny Willett in 2016 (+5000), Patrick Reed in 2018 (+4000) and Hideki Matsuyama in 2021 (+5000).

If you prefer to pass on the lower odds of the favorites such as Scottie Scheffler (+650), Rory McIlroy (+700) or Jon Rahm (+900) and prefer to take a chance on someone with a bigger payout, then look at these two players to potentially become the fourth recent winner of odds +4000 or longer.

Viktor Hovland +4000 DraftKings

Much has been made about Viktor Hovland’s short-game struggles. The Norwegian himself even admitted as much in 2020.

“I just suck at chipping,” Hovland said. “I definitely need to work on my short game.”

Since then, Hovland has recorded six professional wins and has become more efficient around the greens. In 2021-22, he ranked 99th in scrambling and 150th in sand-save percentage. This year, Hovland is 29th in scrambling and 24th in sand saves.

“I've just kind of kept continuing to gain confidence around the greens,” Hovland said. “Got some weapons around the green here now. The bunker's not an auto bogey. I feel like I can spin it in the bunkers even though the sand is a little bit fluffy. Short-sided is no problem.”

Hovland has typically performed well with his short game in majors. Of the last nine majors with shots gained data, Hovland gained strokes on the field putting in eight of those majors and gained shots around the green in seven.

Add in his T-3 finish in The Players Championship, where he gained +2.03 strokes on approach, his elite ball-striking paired with an improved game around the greens make Hovland a worthy play this week.

Min Woo Lee +6600 BetMGM

Min Woo Lee showcased last year how lethal he can be with his distance and short game at Augusta National. Lee tied the front nine Masters record with a six-under-par 30 on Sunday that led to a T-14 finish in his Masters debut.

Lee enters with solid form, finishing in four of his last eight professional events, including a T-6 at The Players Championship where he went head-to-head with eventual winner, Scottie Scheffler, in the final group and gained +2.56 strokes on the field.

Lee will be one of the longer hitters in the field, and at a place where distance is a premium and where he’s had some success, he’s worth a flier.
