American League 2023 MVP Betting: Two Months In, Who Are the Favorites?

When betting on futures, such as the AL MVP, this gives you something to follow all season long.
The AL MVP race is a one or two-player race for the award, but below, we’ll look at the Top 3 players for 2023 MLB MVP odds.
Favorites for the 2023 AL Most Valuable Player
Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Angels
Hitting Stats: .274/.346/.539, 15 HRs, 41 RBIs, 58 Ks, 63 Hits
Pitching Stats: 5-2, 3..30 ERA, 71 IP, 96 Ks, 29 Walks.
Odds: DraftKings Sportsbook (-145)
It goes without saying, but Ohtani will be a cheat code for MVP odds in the MLB for the foreseeable future. You will be viewed as a top or most valuable player whenever you’re one of the better hitters and pitchers in the MLB.
At the time of this writing, the Angels are floating at .500 at 31-30 and 8.5 games back of the Texas Rangers.
Ohtani is third in the league in strikeouts and has respectable stat lines elsewhere. A batter must have a dominant performance to supplant Ohtani atop the MLB setting sites leaderboard in 2023.
Aaron Judge, New York Yankees
Stats: .291/.404/.674, 19 HRs, 40 RBIs, 63 Ks, 51 Hits
Odds: FanDuel Sportsbook (+550)
Trailing just New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso (21) in home runs, Judge has a massive slugging percentage at .674 and an OPS of 1.078 — these both lead the league.
Interestingly, he has just 40 RBIs, which is still tied for the 13th in the American League but trails Ohtani and the next player on this list, Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros.
Judge’s ability to hit for power consistently will always carry him in these awards, especially with an OPS north of 1.000.

Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros
Stats: .274/.389/.568, 15 HRs, 51 RBIs, 51 Ks, 52 Hits
Odds: FanDuel Sportsbook (+2500)
As you can see above, this is a two-player race, but Alvarez comes in at +2500 on FanDuel for MLB AL MVP odds. He has the same batting average and home run count as Ohtani and more RBIs than Ohtani and Judge, but he ranks fourth in slugging percentage, fifth in OPS, and doesn’t pitch.
He’s closer to Judge, of course. Still, without the pitching stats, it will be difficult for any position player to top Ohtani for MLB MVP odds unless he falls off performance-wise or is traded to the National League before the deadline.
