American League MVP Betting: Odds, Picks, Predictions for Best Player
As you’ll see below, the 2023 MLB MVP odds in the American League are carried by one player.
A couple of weeks ago, we previewed AL MVP odds, and you’ll be able to see the progress since then.
Let’s check it out.
Favorites for the 2023 AL Most Valuable Player
Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Angels
6/5/23 Hitting Stats: .274/.346/.539, 15 HRs, 41 RBIs, 58 Ks, 63 Hits
6/19/23 Hitting Stats: .300/.384/.632, 24 HRs, 58 RBIs, 69 Ks, 83 Hits
6/5/23 Pitching Stats: 5-2, 3.30 ERA, 71 IP, 96 Ks, 29 Walks
6/19/23 Pitching Stats: 6-2, 3.29 ERA, 82 IP, 105 Ks, 35 Walks.
6/5/23 Odds: DraftKings Sportsbook (-145)
6/19/23 Odds: DraftKings Sportsbook (-425)
OK, as you can see, Ohtani has been on a tear offensively over the past two weeks, adding nine home runs, 17 RBIs, and 20 hits. He also leads the Angels in every statistic other than saves.
He’s now -425 betting odds to win the AL MVP, which is far from the -145 odds. The value has deteriorated, but he should easily win this award. He now leads the league in home runs and has maintained pace pitching-wise despite his poor-performing team.
Aaron Judge, New York Yankees
6/5/23 Hitting Stats: .291/.404/.674, 19 HRs, 40 RBIs, 63 Ks, 51 Hits
6/19/23 Hitting Stats: .291/.404/.674, 19 HRs, 40 RBIs, 63 Ks, 51 Hits
6/5/23 Odds: FanDuel Sportsbook (+550)
6/19/23 Odds: FanDuel Sportsbook (+1900)
As you can tell by the statistics, Judge hasn’t played since June 3 because of a toe injury. His lack of playing, coupled with Ohtani’s offensive outburst, has resulted in his odds diminishing rapidly, though he’s still second because of how impressive he was before the injury and perhaps because of his expected impact when he returns. Still, there’s no timetable for it.
Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros
6/5/23 Hitting Stats: .274/.389/.568, 15 HRs, 51 RBIs, 51 Ks, 52 Hits
6/19/23 Hitting Stats: .277/.388/.589, 17 HRs, 55 RBIs, 55 Ks, 56 Hits
6/5/23 Odds: FanDuel Sportsbook (+2500)
6/19/23 Odds: FanDuel Sportsbook (+15000)
Alvarez’s MLB betting odds have sunk over the past two weeks, going from No. 3 to No. 19. He’s seen a slight uptick in batting average but has just two home runs and four RBIs. Like Judge, he’s been with oblique discomfort since June 8 and is expected to be on the shelf for a few weeks.
His value is gone.
Corey Seager, Texas Rangers
Stats: .363/.420/.656, 10 HRs, 40 RBIs, 30 Ks, 58 Hits
6/5/23 Odds: FanDuel Sportsbook (+3200)
Making his debut in our rankings is Rangers shortstop Corey Seager.
Seager missed a chunk of time between April 11 and May 17 and has only played 40 games this season. Still, he’s batting .363, which is nothing to scoff at.
He’s a valuable and consistent bat in the Rangers lineup, but MVP odds-wise, he’ll need a lot more than an impressive batting average to get it done.
Plus, his lack of playing time will prove critical, though he could narrow the gap between himself and Judge should he continue to miss time and Seager continues hitting well.
Still, the chasm between these players and Ohtani is massive.
