Will the Texas Rangers sweep the Houston Astros?

The Astros are not playing good baseball, starting with an anemic offense ranking 26th in Major League Baseball. The team is batting just .211.

The Astros’ designated hitter, Yordan Alvarez, is an example of the team’s hitting struggles. He is batting .167.

The Pitching Matchup

The Rangers will start left-hander Taylor Hearn in this Game 2 matchup, a Royse City (Texas) High School product. An imposing figure at 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, Hearn throws a fastball that averages 95.5 mph.

The Astros will send out a struggling starting pitcher, Jake Odorizzi, who in three starts is 0-2 and has posted a 9.00 ERA.

In his last start against the Angels, Odorizzi did not complete the first inning, allowing six runs, of which three were earned, including four walks.

The pitching matchup favors the Rangers.

I like betting on the Rangers, using the moneyline, currently offered at +100 by BetMGM Sportsbook .

Miami Marlins vs. Washington Nationals

The Marlins are in second place in the NL East with a 7-8 record and have lost $50 per $100 bet on each of their 15 games.

The Nationals are in 5th place in the National League East with a 6-12 record, losing $445 per $100 bet on each of their 18 games.

The current market pricing has the Marlins installed as a -135 moneyline road favorite, with a -1.5 run line, paying back +135 juice, and a posted total of 7.5 runs with Over bettors enjoying +100 juice.

Which team has the advantage in the starting pitching matchup?

The Marlins will send out right-hander Sandy Alcantara, who is 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA.

Alcantara is off to a fine start, displaying excellent command with all his pitches. He has allowed a .184 expected batting average, which measures the likelihood that a batted ball will become a hit.

Alcantara has an excellent fastball that averages 97 mph. He also throws a slider that averages 90 mph and a change-up that averages 92 mph.

The Nationals will counter with right-handed starting pitcher Josiah Gray, who is 2-1 with a solid 3.14 ERA.

However, Gray is not pitching anywhere close to the standards of Alcantara. With control being an issue, Gray has walked 12% of the batters he has faced.
