The Brooklyn Nets are surrounded by trade rumors, a star that plays only in road games, another star on the injured list until at least late February, and a third star that is essentially day-to-day nursing tightness in his hamstring.

They’re home to take on the Boston Celtics at 7:30 p.m. ET tonight in a game they need to win to stop the eight-game losing streak and make things not as stressful for New York sports betting players.

Missing Players Plaque Brooklyn

The players referenced above are Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden, who has been the centerpiece of rumors that would send him to the Philadelphia 76ers and in parallel with the front office’s frustration with him ahead of his upcoming free agency.

The rumored asking price by the Nets is high, with the 76ers returning the maligned point guard Ben Simmons, two first-round draft picks and a budding 21-year-old star from the University of Kentucky in Tyrese Maxey.

This situation is the NBA’s version of Texas Hold’em. The Nets have checked reraised and the 76ers and are calling the bluff that they’re fine keeping Simmons on their roster for the remainder of the season. The clock is ticking ahead of Thursday’s traded deadline.

How This Has Affected Brooklyn Recently

The Nets also are 2-9 straight-up (SU) and 3-8 against the spread (ATS) since Durant sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee in a 120-105 home win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Jan. 15.

They are still waiting for Joe Harris to return from ankle surgery and might be without LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle) and Nic Claxton (hamstring). So, can the Nets even get healthy enough to launch a winning streak down the stretch remains to be seen, but right now, they are playing some ugly looking brand of basketball.

What the Numbers Say About This Game

This is the first eight-game losing streak for Brooklyn since December 2018. Over the past 20 seasons, when the Nets have been on an eight-game losing streak, they have produced a 7-10 SU and ATS record including a 5-12 Over-Under record.

The Nets have failed to cover the spread in their past four games and have lost to the number in seven of the past eight games.

Over the past five seasons, the Nets are 4-2 SU and ATS, including an even 3-3 over-under record after having lost seven of their last eight games to the spread.

Home dogs of 6.5 or more points that have lost their last eight games are 5-28 SU and 14-19 ATS for 42.4%, including 19-13 over-under for 59.4% Under winners in games played over the past five seasons.

This is the first time since 1996 that a team with a winning record has lost eight or more consecutive games and it sure appears that the Nets are looking to move on from this Power-3 dysfunctional team.

The bigger question to be asked is if KD has been on the cell with Steph Curry. KD does not need to be told that his move to the Nets and away from the Golden State Warriors was a monumentally poor choice.

How We Pick Celtics at Nets

The betting line for this matchup opened with the Celtics ia 5.5-point road favorite at BetMGM New York Sportsbook and with the news that the Nets will be without any of their trio of superstar players, the markets have now priced the Celtics as 8.5-point road favorites.

The total opened at 216 points and the betting market has seen more Under bets forcing the price lower to a current level of 212.5 points as offered at BetMGM.

I like the Celtics tonight minus the 8.5 points.
