Charlotte Hornets at New York Knicks Betting Analysis; BetMGM Knicks Offer

The New York Knicks will celebrate the Martin Luther King Holiday at Madison Square Garden against the Charlotte Hornets in a game tipping off at 1 p.m. ET.

Currently, the lines have not been released for this matchup. Based on my NBA team power ratings, I anticipate the Knicks will open as 4.5-point home favorites.

How Knicks, Hornets Have Fared On the OddsThe Knicks are 23-20 straight-up (SU), a profitable 26-17 against the spread (ATS), and the over-under has gone 23-19-1. In the Knicks home games, they have compiled an even 11-11 SU record, just 10-12 ATS and a decided edge to the under, sporting an 8-14 over-under record.

The Hornets have a 23-20 SU record, while cover the spread nicely with a sparkling 26-17 mark, producing 60.5% winning bets for their backers. The over-under has gone 23-20. On the road, the Hornets have compiled an 11-14 SU record, earned a 12-13 ATS record and the over-under 13-12.

How Knicks and Hornets Have Fared With Rest

The Hornets lost 116-109 at home to the Orlando Magic as double-digit favorites. They have had two days of rest to chew on that poor performance. The Hornets are 22-12 SU and 23-11 ATS for 68% winning bets in games having one or more days of rest. In road tilts, though, the record with one or more days of rest dwindles to 11-9 SU and ATS. They are also 4-7 SU and 5-6 ATS when coming off an upset loss spanning the past three seasons.

Rest doesn't seem to help the Knicks. They are 12-17 SU and 11-17-1 ATS for 39% playing game with one day of rest. In their previous game Saturday, they caught the Atlanta Hawks in the second of back-to-back games and defeated them on the road 117-108 and covered the spread that they were 3-point underdogs. Over the past three seasons, when off an upset win, the Knicks are 17-18 SU and 19-14-2 ATS for 57.6% winning bets.

How Knicks and Hornets have Fared in Recent Games

The Hornets have covered the NBA betting spread in four of their past five games. In past situations like this while playing on the road spanning the last three seasons, the Hornets games have seen the under produce a winning 11-5 record for 69% winning bets.

The Hornets play and score at one of the fastest rates in the NBA. They are second in scoring average at 114.9 points per game, third in shots per game at 92.6 and third in 3-point shooting percentage at 38%.

The Knicks have been on the rise in my power ratings in recent weeks as their defensive intensity has been turned up. They rank sixth in the NBA, allowing an average of 104.6 points per game. However, they play at a methodical pace averaging 86 shots per game that ranks 26th of the 30 teams. Still, their defensive intensity forces opponents to slower tempo style games, which favors the Knicks.

Pick for Hornets at Knicks

I am leaning Knicks if they are not favorites of more than 5.5 points in this matchup.
