At 16-4 and with marquee wins in the competitive SEC, the LSU Tigers basketball team is in the national title picture, making them an attractive Louisiana sports betting option.

LSU’s best week came early in January when the Tigers defeated No. 16 Kentucky 65-60 on Jan. 4 and No. 18 Tennessee 79-67 on Jan. 8. Both wins came at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, where LSU has gone 11-1 this season. The only loss at home was a 65-58 defeat to Arkansas on Jan. 15, which started a three-game losing streak.

LSU bounced back on Wednesday with a 70-64 win over Texas A&M.

Defense Leads Way for LSU

The Tigers have found success because of their defense, which ranks eighth in the country in points allowed per game (58.4) and first in defensive field goal percentage (35.9%). LSU is also one of the best teams in the country at defending the 3, limiting teams to 26.9% from 3-point range.

Because of its defense, 16 of LSU’s 20 games have gone under the pregame total.

LSU ATS

The Tigers started the season as one of the more profitable teams to back. LSU covered in its first five games and 13 of its first 16. But the team’s struggles as of late have coincided with its worst stretch against the spread this season. LSU has failed to cover in three of its past four games.

LSU Futures

Unlike last season when it looked like Gonzaga and Baylor were the only teams that had realistic shots to win the national title, college basketball appears to have more parity now.

Gonzaga (+600) and Baylor (+1000) remain the college basketball betting favorites to win it all, but earlier losses for each team this season compared to last year make the title chase seem more open.

Each of the three major sportsbooks has the same odds for LSU to be this season’s national champion. The Tigers are +5000 to win it all at FanDuel Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook and BetMGM.

DraftKings also has odds on teams to make the Final Four, and LSU is +1100 to reach New Orleans.
