The Camping World Stadium host one of the college football bowls this year as Clemson takes on Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl. The game is normally played between the winners of the Big 12 Conference and ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference).

Clemson were ACC champions for six straight years from 2015-2020 but finished third in the latest season. Iowa made the Big 12 Championship game last year but have struggled this season. Bowl game markets are now out at many top US sportsbooks. Can Iowa overcome their problems on the road or will Clemson rack up yet another bowl title?

Brief History of the Cheez-It Bowl

The Cheez-It Bowl has changed name over the years. You may have been following the bowl since it was called the Champs Sports Bowl or Tangerine Bowl. However, it became the Cheez-It Bowl in 2020 following the sign-on of a new title sponsor. Whether you’re a fan of cheese crackers or not, you may be a fan of one of the two college football sides. The Tigers have a good track record in the game, having won the bowl twice.

Betting on Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl

Iowa State Cyclones finished 4th in the Big 12 Conference this year with a 7-5 record. That was in contrast to the 2020 regular season where they finished 9-3 and 8-1, reaching the Big 12 Championship Game in the process. They also took down the Fiesta Bowl at the beginning of 2021.

Certainly, Iowa State are better playing on home soil than away. Their recent record speaks for itself: a win in Iowa vs TCU, with home wins in November against Texas (30-7), Oklahoma State (24-21) and Kansas (59-7). The Camping World Stadium, therefore, will be unusual ground for the Cyclones.

For star Iowa State players, look no further than Brock Purdy. The Senior quarterback was offensive MVP in the Fiesta Bowl when Iowa dispatched Oregon Ducks 34-17. This season he made nearly 3,000 passing yards and scored 18 passing touchdowns. Look out too for Breece Hall who racked up 20 rushing touchdowns and over 1,400 rushing yards. Despite the away feel for Iowa, sportsbooks are still making them slight favorites for the bowl. Iowa State can be found around -105 to win on the moneyline.

Betting on Clemson Tigers at the Cheez-It Bowl

It will be an interesting matchup between Campbell and Tigers head coach William “Dabo” Swinney. Swinney has been in charge since 2008 and led the Tigers to two championships in the last five years.

Swinney will be missing Jackson Carman, the offensive tackle who moved to NFL side the Bengals in the summer. However, Jordan McFadden has slotted in to the role successfully, and that’s been borne out in some of the Tigers’ end-of-year results.

2021 Cheez-It Bowl Odds

US sportsbooks are carrying full betting markets on the Bowl in the runup to the big matchup.

Betting the Moneyline at the Cheez-it Bowl

The sportsbooks predict a close matchup for the bowl, and that’s borne out in the moneyline betting market. There’s little to separate Clemson and Iowa on paper, with no real underdog or favorite to back. You can get around -105 on either team for this bowl.

Betting the Point Spread at the Cheez-it Bowl

Sportsbooks are offering a spread on the total points for either side. Clemson are made slight favorites and are being given the handicap. Iowa State are very small underdogs and will get a point head start before the bowl game begins. In reality, the spread is extremely tight – +1 or -1 point either way – so you may be better off going for a teaser bet where you can select the spread yourself.

Totals (Over/Under) Betting on the Cheez-it Bowl

You can also bet on the total points if the regular matchup between Clemson and Iowa is too hard to predict. You’ll find Over/Under markets at all US sportsbooks. The sportsbook will set a point, and you must decide whether the total points will be over or under the mark. Most online sportsbooks go 44.0-44.5 as their point. With both scoring highly at the end of the year, an Over 44.0 bet at around -114 may be the smart bet.

Prop Bets

The Camping World Cheez-it Bowl props allow you to bet on outcomes separate from the final score. Many bowl props will settle before the end of the tie. Both Clemson and Iowa ended their seasons with some second-half flourishes. That may mean an over bet on 2nd half points is the smart wager.
