Betting on TCU at the NCAA Fiesta Bowl

The Horned Frogs’ future prospects looked bleak after a 5-7 campaign last year. Long-time coach Gary Patterson resigned before he got fired and in stepped Sonny Dykes. Previously at SMU, Dykes has had a dream first season in Fort Worth. His team went undefeated in the regular season before finally losing in the Big-12 Championship.

TCU worried that the 31-28 overtime loss to Kansas State might keep it out of the CFP. However, its 12-1 mark was enough to overcome the narrow loss to K-State. A late-season loss by No. 4 USC also helped secure the Horned Frogs’ playoff bid.

Much of TCU’s success lies with the running game. This team averages 201.7 rushing yards per game (19th nationally) and features a star running back in Kendre Miller. The junior has run for 1,342 yards and 17 touchdowns on 216 carries. He’s also incredibly efficient, averaging 6.2 yards per carry.

Quarterback Max Duggan is the other offensive star of the team. Despite beginning the year as a backup, Duggan has thrown for 3,321 yards, 30 touchdowns, and four interceptions. His performance is one reason why TCU averages 38.8 points (8th nationally).

The Horned Frogs’ defense definitely isn’t on the same level as the offense. It surrenders 25.7 points (#53), 154.3 rushing yards (66th), and 237.8 passing yards (#79). The defense will need to step up if this team is to get past the Wolverines.

After a 2-4 campaign during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Jim Harbaugh has guided Michigan to a 25-2 mark. This year represents his best handiwork yet, with the Wolverines (13-0) undefeated and securing a CFP berth. It has passed all challenges, including No. 4 Ohio State, No. 9 Penn State, and Purdue in the Big-Ten Championship.

This team has truly been dominating and leads the nation in point differential (26.7). It ranks fifth in the nation in scoring (40.1 points) and third in defensive points (13.4). There’s no easy side of the ball when facing Michigan.

The Wolverines’ vaunted offense will be without running back Blake Corum (knee). Corum ran for 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns before getting knee surgery. His loss will certainly be felt, but backup Donovan Edwards (872 yards) is more than capable. Edwards has helped this team average 243 rushing yards (6th nationally).

Michigan’s run defense is outstanding and holds opponents to 85.2 rushing yards (2nd). Its pass defense is also good, holding other teams to 191.8 yards (18th). Linebackers Junior Colson (95 tackles) and Mike Morris (7 stacks) lead the efforts here.
